SRI electroadhesion technology enables robot to climb any surface

SRI has developed a new technology that uses low voltage electrostatic to clamp down on any surface whether conductive or non-conductive. This technology enables robots to climb any surface such as drywall, steel, concrete, wood, glass and brick/stucco. Electroadhesion is an electrically controlled adhesion that uses an on-board power supply to induce electrostatic charges on the surface. The electrostatic charge can be applied to any surface or texture enabling to robot to [Read the rest...]

Skyfire no longer available on iTunes

Skyfire the browser capable of showing Flash content on Apple products appears to be no longer available. From what Skyfire developers are saying Apple is not the one who pulled the plug but rather the demand for the application was so high that the company decided not to take any more users for now to preserve the quality. Apparently their servers can only handle so many concurrent users and they [Read the rest...]

Blekko a new search engine based on human input

A new search engine has been release that depends on human inputs to sort out the information.  The idea is to use slashtags to group websites by topic so search results would be more accurate. Pole Sabz is using a similar idea except they do it for blog posts to organize them by topics and then categorize them. Blekko refines the search based on those categorization. From the initial testing [Read the rest...]

Having a liberal point of view is partly based on genetics

A new study has shown that ideology is not solely formed by social conditions. A gene called DRD4 tagged as “the liberal gene” can determine someone’s openness toward learning new things. The receptiveness of the person allows them to have more friends and therefore be more exposed to new experiences which can lead to the person becoming more liberal. The study was conducted on 2,000 subjects from the National Longitudinal [Read the rest...]

Audi A2 Electric car sets a new world record

It looks like we have a new world record for how far an electric car can drive in one charge. One of the biggest drawbacks of electric cars is their range. Most electric cars can barely drive up to a 100 miles per charge under the optimal condition which is the main reason as why electric cars aren’t becoming very popular. However it looks like that is about to change. [Read the rest...]

Firesheep makes stealing your cookies, accessing your Facebook account laughably easy

A software developer called Eric Butler doesn’t just want to make you aware of the lax security of most social networking sites, he wants to force you to do something about it! To that end, he’s developed Firesheep, a Firefox add-on that even the least technically inclined among us can use to eavesdrop on open WiFi networks and capture your fellow users’ cookies. Any time a site recognized by Firesheep [Read the rest...]

Fermilab is Building a ‘Holometer’ to Determine Once and For All Whether Reality Is Just an Illusion

Researchers at Fermilab are building a “holometer” so they can disprove everything you thought you knew about the universe. More specifically, they are trying to either prove or disprove the somewhat mind-bending notion that the third dimension doesn’t exist at all, and that the 3-D universe we think we live in is nothing more than a hologram. To do so, they are building the most precise clock ever created. The [Read the rest...]
